Labradorite and grey fresh water pearl pendant.
Handmade sterling silver feathers give depth and texture.

  • 27" rolo chain necklace with handmade hook clasp.

  • Three roughly faceted garnets are flanked by sterling silver bead caps along one side of the chain.

  • A green chartreuse fresh water pearl dangles from one end of the chain. Adjustable.

  • Heavily oxidized to bring out the subtle texture of the metal.

  • Pierced copper silhouette of a flying Great Blue Heron.

  • Signed and dated on the back ".925".

This piece is part of a series of pendants representing endangered or threatened birds in the US.
I am starting the series off here in my native Florida, exploring the states extensive and varied bird population and how we interact, alter, and coexist within each other's world.

Great Blue Heron

Conservation status: Formerly often shot, simply because it made a conspicuous and easy target, but this rarely occurs today. Colonies may be disrupted by human disturbance, especially early in season. Still common and widespread, numbers probably stable.

Habitat: Marshes, swamps, shores, tideflats. Very adaptable. Forages in any kind of calm fresh waters or slow-moving rivers, also in shallow coastal bays. Nests in trees or shrubs near water, sometimes on ground in areas free of predators. "Great White" form is mostly in salt water habitats. (information from
